Parade to Honor Ignacio Allende

By Jesús Aguado

On January 21, the 249th anniversary of the birth of the Mexican Independence hero General Ignacio Allende y Unzaga will be celebrated in San Miguel de Allende. Allende was born here in 1769, when the city was known as San Miguel el Grande. The city took its current name to honor the hero.

The celebration will feature the participation of the Heroic National Mexican Army in a traditional civic-military parade through the main streets of the city, with the participation of over 500 military personnel, members of the emergency corps, educational institutions, and beauty queens.

Verónica Rodríguez, director of Education in San Miguel, told Atención that the parade will leave at 10am from calle Nueva del Parque, heading toward the Jardín Principal via Zacateros, Canal, Hernández Macías, Mesones, Juárez, San Francisco, and Plaza Principal.
