Jóvenes Adelante Adds New Board Members

By Sue Leonard

The board of Jóvenes Adelante (JA) is proud to announce the addition of two new board members. Jorge Philippe—who for a year has coordinated JA’s mentor program—has been elected as the new co-vice president of student programs.

“I could not be more pleased than to have Jorge on the board with us,” said Co-Vice President of Student Programs Esther Rocha. “Jorge has been integral to our essential mentor program as well as active with us in student selection and corporate relations.”

Don Krim, who is known locally as a well-received singer and actor, was elected to be JA’s vice president of development. “Don has extensive board experience and a fervent passion to assist young local Mexican scholars to embrace, succeed in, and achieve through advanced education,” said JA Treasurer Tom Hall. “He brings to JA proven abilities in strategic planning, marketing, and fundraising.”

And it is with great appreciation for the work she has done in marketing, fundraising, and leadership that the board wishes Robin Loving well as she relocates herself to Austin, Texas. “During Robin’s tenure, we have established an outstanding board, all members of which are continuing their terms in 2018,” said JA Secretary Susi Beere. “We also have established an amazing staff. Thanks to our volunteers, sponsors, and partners, our future looks better than ever.”

“It has been a privilege to serve our community’s future through Jóvenes Adelante,” said Loving. “Our sponsors, our mentors, our board, our staff, our volunteers, our students—I’ve never worked with better, more dedicated people. I will continue to advise for as long as needed and desired as I rebase myself in Austin nearer to family. I don’t think there is a better, more generous, more loving community than San Miguel, so I thank [everyone] for my 13 wonderful years here.”

Jóvenes Adelante breaks the cycle of historic economic disparity in families by granting scholarships to local Mexican honors students who otherwise could not afford to attend university.
