Artist John Hillmer finds his way back to the Bordello Gallery’s lovely courtyard space on Órganos this Saturday and Sunday. Hillmer has been traveling around Mexico, and we are happy he is back in San Miguel!

He brings with him a cast of characters, designs, colors, and images. His mix of myth, music, and Mexican dance mingle in his art including originals and prints. “The work is energetic, reflective, and fun,” says gallery owner Barbara Poole, who is also hosting a weeklong quilters’ show at the gallery/Casa de la Noche.

As stage backdrops, Hillmer’s work has played with artists like Ray Charles, Keb’ Mo’, and Maya Angelou. As client work, it’s helped to celebrate more than 50 music, community, and literary events across North America. He is just back from the ArtFest at the American School in Guadalajara where he has participated for over a decade.

He’s lived on and off in San Miguel for years. Today Hillmer’s playful work pops up in the form of small, affordable prints and larger originals—all spirited creations.

Come lose yourself and find some art for this festive time of year. There will be art, jazz, and some tequila too! See you there!
