The Power in Peace of Mind

By Melanie Lansing

Let’s face it: talking about holiday get-togethers and vacation plans with the people we love is easy. Other topics—like future medical needs as we age—are trickier. Do you know what will happen if you suffer a medical emergency in San Miguel de Allende? Have you thought about what you would do if you become severely ill or injured? Better yet, are you aware of how to access services and what your options are?

“How to Be Prepared for a Medical Emergency”
Wed, Dec 6, 6–8pm
La Casona Convention Center
Salida a Celaya 77
150 pesos

Conversations about medical emergencies should ideally start well before a health crisis or accident. In fact, people who have advanced care-planning discussions are three times more likely to have their wishes followed.

Just remember the goal: peace of mind, clarity, and options.

Plan to attend Peace of Mind in San Miguel’s seminar on “How to Be Prepared for a Medical Emergency” at La Casona Convention Center on Wednesday, December 6, from 6 to 8pm (cost 150 pesos). We will provide key and updated information on how to plan, prepare, and respond to medical emergencies in San Miguel. You will have the opportunity to meet local medical and legal experts who will respond to your questions and provide valuable tips.

Medical emergency topics to know while you are in Mexico:

  • How the Mexican Red Cross responds and what you need to know;
  • The difference between Seguro Popular, IMSS, and private health insurance plans;
  • How public and private hospital services work;
  • Private hospitals and clinics in San Miguel—how do they compare?
  • How to report medical emergencies and what to expect?
  • What legal documents are recommended in Mexico?
  • Tips on life and death preparedness.

At this two-hour presentation, you can access information and resources that will help you reduce your risk of medical tragedy. You’ll gain a new sense of comfort and control by understanding what your future care involves.

RSVP required. Please reserve your seat(s) by emailing or calling Mex. cell 415 108 0810 or USA 971 327 7187. See our advertisement in this week’s Atención for more details. Also, be sure to bring pen and paper to take notes.

Peace of Mind in San Miguel is a community service project created by Melanie Lansing, Clementina Beas, and a team of San Miguel medical and legal experts to raise awareness among the English-speaking community on medical emergency preparedness.
