Lions Trip to Puebla

By Janice and Dennis

The International Lions Club of San Miguel will be sponsoring a four-day trip to the city of Puebla on December 12–15. We will be staying at the Hotel Colonial. Besides the city of Puebla, there will be an optional side trip to the Cacaxtla archaeological zone. Also on the itinerary is a drive-through visit to the Africam, the African ecological park where more than 3000 animals, including lions, tigers, giraffes, buffalo, deer, rhinoceroses, and peacocks roam free in a natural setting (africamsafari.com). (Entrance fee of 232 pesos. INAPAM 50% off, not covered in cost of trip.)

In the city of Puebla, the group will have the opportunity to visit the Museo Amparo, the Cathedral, ex-convent of Santa Rosa and the Museo de Arte Popular Poblano. There is also the Iglesia de la Compania where supposedly an Asian princess is buried beneath the altar, and also the beautiful Rosario Chapel. There will be plenty of time for shopping and looking for talavera.

The cost of the trip is 3200 pesos each for double occupancy and 4200 pesos for single occupancy, based on at least 35 participants. This includes first-class bus, hotel, breakfasts, tips, a byob cocktail party with nibbles supplied by the Lions, and a donation to the Lions club, which gives glasses to the needy and does free diabetes testing. Reservations can be made by sending an email to lionstrips@gmail.com, or by calling 152 5541.

Please save your unused soaps, shampoos, etc. for the orphanages. We’ll collect on the bus.
