Trump’s Wall in San Miguel

Building the Wall

By David Johanssen

Imagine the very near future, when the Trump administration has carried out its campaign promise to deport millions of illegal immigrants. That’s the vision of Building the Wall, Pulitzer Prize-winner Robert Schenkkan’s new political play addressing Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric and questionable policies. This harrowing drama delivers a powerful warning, putting a human face on heartless government actions, making what seems inconceivable, inevitable.

Says Charles McNulty of the Los Angeles Times,Building the Wall should be seen and shuddered over if only to heighten our collective vigilance.” Written just this year, the play will be presented by five theaters around the US so far in a series of productions, reacting to a presidency that has alarmed many theater artists.

Shelter Theater is delighted to be the first Latin American venue for this powerful defense of human dignity, written by the author of The Kentucky Cycle, All the Way, and By the Waters of Babylon. Reprising their sold-out and stunning roles from July, Cynthia Simmons and David Galitzky star exclusively at Shelter Theater, November 29–December 2, at 7pm with a Sunday matinee December 3 at 3pm.

“I’m honored to produce this extraordinary play in San Miguel de Allende, and I couldn’t ask for finer performers to bring this important work to life,” says producer/director Alan Jordan, director of earlier hits House, I Am My Own Wife, Diary of a Madman, By the Waters of Babylon and last season’s sell-out, The Tricky Part.

Seating is limited and sold-out shows are likely, so please buy tickets soon at Tesoro at the Biblioteca or online at
