The Joys of Adopting an Adult Cat

By Stephanie Hatfield

When I visited the SPA to adopt a kitty, I met some beautiful kittens, all very sweet, playful, and needing a home. As a recently retired person, I wondered if I had the energy to keep up with such active kittens. The cat volunteer suggested I consider an adult cat. I was immediately drawn to Winifred, a three-year-old calico girl, who was lounging on a shelf, soaking up the sunlight. She had been at the shelter almost two years, passed over in favor of the younger kittens. My decision to adopt her came easily.

She has now been with me for a few weeks. Renamed Addie, she’s playful, loves to chat with me, follows me around the house, snuggles, and has quickly become the furry companion I had hoped for. For all of you looking to adopt a kitty, my advice would be to not only look at the kittens, but also meet the adult cats. You might find a gem like I did—my Addie.

Please consider the SPA’s other adult gems. Gypsy, a lovely tortoise girl, is ready for a home. Carlotta, a long-haired beauty, might be the cat for you. Aussie, with his tuxedo-marked black and white coat, eagerly awaits meeting you. Visit the SPA, Los Pinos 7, 152 6124, any day, Monday-Saturday, 11am–2pm, to choose your treasure.
