New CRISMA to Be Ready in 2022

By Jesús Aguado

A ceremony was held recently to place the first stone for the new Rehabilitation Center of San Miguel de Allende. The final investment for the center, to be completed in 2022, will be 40 million pesos.

The current CRISMA is located on calle Zamora Ríos in colonia Allende. In a 2,200-square-meter space, adults and children receive rehabilitation therapy. The center offers pediatric rehabilitation, mechanotherapy, hydrotherapy, and speech therapy for adults and children. Sergio Legorreta, director of Vamos México, the foundation that controls the center, previously told Atención, “We have all the services of a world class rehabilitation center.”

Dr. Legorreta said that in 2016, CRISMA served 5,020 patients. Director Legorreta stated that if the patients take their therapy somewhere else, without taking into account the transportation costs, the price for a single therapy session could be from 200–300 pesos. At CRISMA, after filling out some forms, patients pay from 20–30 pesos, thanks to reasonable CRISMA rates and agreements with the local DIF (Department for Family Development).

It is estimated that there are 5,000 handicapped persons just in San Miguel, and among those, just eight have been treated at the CRIT (Telethon Center for Children’s Rehabilitation). The rest are on a waiting list or simply not taken care of. For that reason, CRISMA wanted a space where they could construct a building and give service, not just to sanmiguelenses, but to all handicapped people in the region.

To make the hospital possible, the city council donated two hectares at Parque Bicentenario adjacent to the COMUDE building. The hospital will be constructed in three stages. According to Legorreta, 20 million pesos will be invested in the first stage to take CRISMA service to a macro-level, offering bigger and better areas for hydrotherapy, speech therapy, pediatric rehabilitation, multisensory space, and administrative offices. Dr. Legorreta also noted that the second phase will feature the construction of the parking lot, a cafeteria, an auditorium, and a computing zone, as well as doctors’ offices.
