San Miguel Writing Contest

Do you have original poetry, creative nonfiction, fiction, or a Spanish short story to share? Well, now is the time to polish that piece and submit it to the San Miguel Literary Sala. This year the Literary Sala will be selecting one winner from each category and inviting each winner to attend the 13th Annual San Miguel Writers’ Conference that will take place February 14–18, 2018. That’s right. Four winners will walk away with a full conference package, including free lodging (if not a local resident), an agent pitch session, and publication on the San Miguel Writers’ Conference website.

The contest is for debut writers and is open only to writers who have not yet published or self-published a book that has sold over 1,000 copies. The deadline for all writing submissions is November 1 at midnight. Writing can be submitted online by going to

This will be the fifth year the Literary Sala has invited writers to participate in the San Miguel Writing Contest. To celebrate, they have added a new category, International Spanish Short Story. It is the Literary Sala’s hope that the new category will bring more Spanish-speaking writers to the San Miguel Writers’ Conference.
