Pop Up Gallery Event to Benefit Breast Cancer Awareness Month

By Shannon Reece

October was declared breast cancer awareness month in 1985. It is now an international campaign to increase awareness and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure. Having just completed my own treatment in January 2016, I know how important early diagnosis is and applaud the passionate dedication of hundreds of health practitioners around the world working to eradicate this disease. Last October I opened my studio with an exhibit of art works by five women artists. We raised just over 3000 pesos towards the cause. This Sunday, October 29, we are having another opening from 11am–5pm at Refugio Sur 6 in Col San Antonio. Photographers Jo Brenzo and Sandi Bosley will be showing their work along with clothing designer Dorothy Gerhart, ceramic artist Angelina Perez, and my photo-based works. We are donating 20 percent of proceeds to breast cancer awareness programs in Mexico. Please join us, help support the cause, and enjoy refreshments, conversation, and wonderful work.
