Perspectives in Non-Duality

Ravi Nathwani

By David Johanssen

Many Hindus believe everything is made of one non-dual consciousness, and this oneness points to the idea that the universe and all its multiplicity are ultimately expressions of one essential reality. Continuing Wednesday, October 11, at 5pm, Ravi Nathwani will be hosting a series on Perspectives in Non-Duality at Shelter Theater. Ravi, co-editor of Mala of the Heart, 108 Sacred Poems, lectures on a variety of Vedic studies and teaches Yoga Teacher workshops across the US.

This series of videos and discussions will focus on exploring the perspectives of Non-Duality and how they can be helpful in living life in an apparently “dualistic” world in a creative and practical manner, increasing levels of peace in the mind while reducing the causes of suffering. Come and learn about universal consciousness and the true fabric of reality. The Non-Duality series with Ravi will continue October 11, 18, 25, and November 1 at 5pm.

We continue our exploration into the life of Frida Kahlo with the film Frida on Friday, October 6, at 5pm. In her breakout role, Salma Hayek ages some 30 years onscreen as she charts Frida Kahlo’s life from feisty schoolgirl to Diego Rivera’s protégée and world-renowned artist. The Detroit News calls it, “passionate, provocative, hilarious, tragic, and just dizzyingly beautiful to behold.”

To compliment Ken Burns’ magnificent series on PBS on Friday, October 13, at 5pm, we revive Platoon, Oliver Stone’s autobiographical Vietnam War film. Charlie Sheen, a naive soldier, finds himself caught in a battle of wills between two sergeants, one good (Willem Dafoe) and the other evil (Tom Berenger). The Chicago Tribune says, “There are images in Platoon so powerful that they seem, rather than simply imprinted on celluloid, to have been burned into memory.” Relive this one on our big screen!
