Sanmiguelenses Are Designed For Helping

By Jesús Aguado

Tons of food, personal hygiene products, and cleaning items have been donated by the people of San Miguel de Allende to support those impacted by natural phenomena in several states of Mexico.

On Friday, September 22, Leticia Fernández, president of the local Red Cross Council, along with volunteer women, dispatched the first trailer loaded with ten tons of food for people in Chiapas. They offered a prayer before sending it, and the truck moved on its way, expected to arrive in Chiapas the next day. A second trailer will leave this week.

The Red Cross issued a thank you card to all Sanmiguelenses who have helped to support those impacted by the tragedy and to everyone for giving a hand to help the people of this country.

The document stated: “Thank you, because with the Red Cross, we have proved that San Miguel is solid and that we are helping to have a better and stronger nation; we are helping so people can keep hope alive.” The document ended with, “Thank you, because in the Heart of Mexico, we are designed for helping.”

Help keeps arriving at the Red Cross and, according to Fernández, the collection center will remain open until the help is not needed. However, she commented that after this tragedy, it may take weeks, months, or even years for people to reconstruct their lives and hopes.

For that reason, she asked everyone to keep donating. The delegation receives the donations 24/7 at Libramiento Manuel Zavala.
