Mystery Arrivals

Gypsy

Oz

By Joan DiPiero

Our latest arrivals, Gypsy and Oz, probably didn’t have the foresight to predict that the SPA would welcome them with open arms. The decision was not altogether theirs to make, but as sometimes happens, all worked out for the best. A couple of weeks ago, our adult cats were making chattering noises in their outside tree area, and I looked up thinking that they were reacting to the birds that like to tease them from the treetops above. But no, instead, a very placid tortoise cat was perched on the wall, looking as though she wanted an invitation to join the others. We thought she might be a neighborhood cat, so let her be, but she was persistent, staring at us, then trying a more visible spot on the roof. At the end of the day, we finally extended the invitation and she was happily plucked from the roof. Her origins are a mystery, but this one-year-old black and orange girl, now named Gypsy, is lovely.

Oz was found in an apartment when the property manager discovered the owners had left him behind when they moved. Matted and hungry after days or weeks of being locked in, he responded to his rescue by showering us with affection, head butting and settling down on our laps, getting as close as possible to our faces. A sweet orange and white five-year-old boy, the mystery is how his owners could have abandoned this lovely cat that should have been an important part of their family. But the greater mystery is his willingness to forgive and trust humans after they failed him so badly.

Gypsy and Oz are welcome additions to the SPA, but we know they would prefer a home of their own. We welcome you to meet them and all our cats and dogs waiting to become part of a family. Photos, descriptions, and videos are on our website—spasanmiguel.org—the “Adopt Me!” pages. Our website is full of information about the SPA, how to volunteer, and what you can do to help. Please take a few minutes to check it out. Our adoption (and volunteer) hours are Monday–Saturday, 11–2, Los Pinos 7, 152 6124.

The SPA’s onsite clinic is open to the public Monday–Saturday and is running a clinic special this month. Every Wednesday in September, the SPA vet’s consultation fee will be waived for three appointments (appointments only, not walk-ins). Please call 152 6124 and mention the promotion to take advantage of this offer!
