ArtPrint Inaugurates a New Space on Calzada de la Aurora

Jeffrey Brown 1

By Victor Aguilar

On Friday, September 22, ArtPrint will be celebrating the Grand Opening of their new location on Calzada de la Aurora with an impressive painting exhibition. Participating artists will include Margarette Dawit, Mario Cabrera, Jeffrey Brown and Enrique Guillén. These four artists represent some of the most talented individuals working in oil painting in San Miguel today.

Margarette Dawit was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. The recipient of a prestigious Merit Scholarship, she studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and has since participated in over 38 individual exhibitions and 27 group exhibitions. In August 2004, she was the selected artist at the Rufino Tamayo Biennial. Dawit’s work often depicts animals against isolated natural backgrounds. Her strong and decisive brushstrokes astound at first and then slowly invite the spectator to dwell in the meaning and content of her compelling imagery.

As a young man, Mario Cabrera studied sculpture in the world capital of marble, Carrara, Italy. His early work was met with praise from his teachers and the artistic community. It was only later that he began to explore painting, a medium he has mastered and in which one can still see his vision as a sculptor. His powerful two-dimensional works are full of texture, movement, and depth. His love for and inspiration from the Renaissance is apparent in much of his work as he utilizes the techniques and lighting of the masters in his original and contemporary interpretations of classic art.

Jeffrey Brown began his career as a landscape painter in New York. At an early age, he was already a prolific draftsman with a great imagination, and his work was often considered surrealist. He was not fond of this definition, and nor was he entirely satisfied to describe his painting as either abstract or figurative. He has since focused on breaking the boundaries between these two genres. Often inspired by the classic masters, he continues to create impressive works which meander between the figurative and abstract worlds.

Enrique Guillén is a painter from Mexico City who studied visual arts at the University of Guadalajara. He has participated in various national collective exhibitions and has had solo museum exhibitions at the Museo Universitario del Chopoand Museo of the City of Querétaro. He is an outstanding draftsman with an extraordinary talent for oil painting. His colors are often monochromatic, and his paintings explore the realms of mysticism while creating powerful images from the mundane. He is the third-place winner of the State Youth Prize awarded in the State of Mexico. He has most recently been awarded an honorable mention in painting at the Luis Nishizawa Biennial, 2017 (State of Mexico).

ArtPrint will be expanding their printing services and will continue to promote local and foreign artists alike in the new location. The Inauguration Cocktail/Grand Opening of the new space will take place on Friday, September 22 at 7:30pm. An event not to be missed!
