Mexico City Airport Welcomes Pod Hotel

While Japan may have mastered the pod or capsule hotel concept—a tight space that serves as little more than a place to sleep for travelers on the go—the concept is picking up steam around the world.

Mexico City International Airport is the latest to tap into travelers’ desire for a convenient, affordable place to rest their head with the opening of izZzleep in Terminal 1. The facility, which bills itself as intelligent hospitality, has 40 capsules as well as a private locker area and bathrooms.

Each capsule sleeps one person only and comes with little more than a bed, a high-definition TV, a safe, Wi-Fi and USB charging ports. The pods can be rented for about USD$8 an hour (140 pesos) with a two-hour minimum. Guests can also rent the pod for a full night starting from about USD$30 per night (640 pesos.) Access to a private shower is available but costs an additional 130 pesos.

The hotel was founded by a group of Mexican entrepreneurs who invested five million pesos and spent two years researching the concept. It has been in a test phase for the past two months. IzZzleep expects to serve some 12,000 people in its first year of operation.

The company plans to invest an additional 25 million pesos to expand the concept to Terminal 2 and to open locations at other Mexican airports, including those in Guadalajara, Monterrey, Tijuana, and Cancun.

Enjoy a Mid-November River Cruise

Cruising is a vacation available all year in different locations. However, river cruising does have a shorter season. While summer is peak season, there are cost savings to be had when traveling in the fall. Specifically, the month of November can even be quite a bit less than September and October. If it’s not peak season, this also means there are fewer crowds.

Mid-November is usually when the Christmas markets make an appearance in Europe. Traveling over the holiday can be expensive, so this allows you to get into the Christmas spirit without the Christmas costs. The weather is also very desirable this time of year. You may be able to get more walks and bike rides in during this cooler month and enjoy the fresh crisp air.

Crystal Offers Shorter Cruises

Crystal Cruises is one of the world’s top luxury cruise lines, with two large, lavish oceangoing ships and a growing fleet of purpose-built river cruise ships, with even more on order. The line’s specialty: luxury voyages around the world that can stretch from several weeks to several months of uncompromising splendor. For those who don’t have a lot of vacation time, the opportunities to sail with Crystal in the past have been rather limited. That’s all changing this fall with the introduction of Crystal Getaway: short, 4 to 13-day ocean and river cruises that offer special ‘taster’ sailings on some of Crystal’s longer itineraries. In addition to taking up less of your vacation time, these special sailings also leave more money in your wallet, with many coming in at a fraction of the cost of one of the line’s normal, multi-week sailings. On the oceans, Crystal is offering 11 shortened voyages between now and the end of the year.

On the river side of things, Crystal is offering six shorter river cruise itineraries, all of which will depart aboard its brand-new “Crystal Mahler.” On these river cruise journeys, it’s worth noting that departures that sail between November 25 and December 24 will get to experience Europe’s famous Christmas markets that are in full swing throughout much of Germany, Austria, and Hungary during that time period. If you’ve always been curious to try luxury cruising, Crystal’s new Crystal Getaway voyages on the oceans and rivers this fall offer a great chance to do just that—without breaking the bank.
