Harvesting Support for Children Served By Feed the Hungry

By Bere Parra

For more than 30 years, Feed the Hungry San Miguel has cared for thousands of children in the lowest income areas of San Miguel by providing them with nutritious and well-balanced meals every school day. The organization relies almost entirely on private donations, which is why their annual fundraiser is one of their key sources of support.

Anyone who has ever organized an event knows that it takes a village to turn plans into reality. When the event is for the benefit of a nonprofit organization such as Feed the Hungry, expenses can have a huge impact, which is why the sponsorship of local businesses is crucial. This year, several of San Miguel’s most loved and respected businesses, professionals, and brands are sponsoring “A Harvest for Growth/Cosechar para Crecer,” Feed the Hungry’s fundraiser, which will take place on Saturday, September 9, from 5–8:30pm at Viñedo Dos Búhos. Dos Búhos is the main sponsor of the event.

“I think we are so fortunate that it is our duty to share what we have,” says sponsor Guadalupe Álvarez, creative director and founder of PENZI Wedding Planners. Another sponsor is Josephine’s, who have a cult following in town thanks to their delicious 100 percent organic smoothies. “I had been wanting to do something for Feed the Hungry for awhile. I was so glad when they asked me to be a sponsor for this event!” says Meghan Bolton Doherty, the brand’s founder and creator.

The sponsors of “A Harvest for Growth” are on the “Best of San Miguel” list. In addition to the two businesses mentioned above, Ablu, Tres Ángeles, Birdie’s Burgers, El Petit Four, La Mesa Grande, Rosewood San Miguel de Allende, and El Vergel Bistro and Market are sponsoring the event. Generous businesses such as The Restaurant, Mixta, Geek&Coffee, Carrie Cameron, La Grotta, VIP Club, Café Firenze, Luna de Queso, Vid Belleza, La Parada, and The Hat Shop join the sponsors mentioned above. They are each providing either a service at a special discounted price or the surprises included in the mystery bags being sold at the event. For dinner, three types of excellent paella will be served. It will be a fun evening of wine, music, and friends for a most worthy cause.

“A Harvest for Growth” will take place Saturday, September 9, at Viñedo Dos Búhos, from 5–8:30pm. Arrive 30 minutes early for wine and cheese! The entertainment will be provided by the talented Nashville singer/songwriter Jenn Grinels. Tickets are US$85 or 1,500 pesos each and can be purchased at La Conexión, Solutions, or at feedthehungrysma.org.
