The SPA is the proud recipient of a generous grant from the San Miguel Community Foundation (SMCF) for the purchase of a gas anesthesia system, something we never could have afforded to purchase on our own. Thanks to SMCF, we now are able to offer a safer alternative for anesthetizing animals undergoing surgery. The primary purpose of the gas anesthesia method is to deliver an inhaled (gas) anesthetic to the animal to keep him unconscious through surgery. With gas anesthesia, adjustments to the amount of anesthesia can be quickly made during surgery and recovery from anesthesia is much faster. Without the gas anesthesia equipment, the SPA’s only option has been to use straight intra-muscular injections to keep an animal sedated during surgery.

Our vet, Dra. Adriana Rivera, is skilled with the new system, which was put into operation in June. Since then, animals belonging to the public and our own resident animals (like Yuma and Suerte) have benefited. Our clinic hours are 9am–3pm, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday and 9am–4pm, Tuesday and Saturday (discount days), at Los Pinos 7 (map at spasanmiguel.org). While walk-ins are welcome, there may be a wait, so it is better to make an appointment (152 6124). We have extended our dental cleaning special through August (20% off the regular price of cleaning, which runs from 700–1000 pesos). You now have the option to choose gas anesthesia for your pet’s surgical procedure at the SPA!
