Come help Stefi and Nelo launch their new CD, A Cultural Expression Through Music, with music we dare you not to dance to! As one fan put it, “Phenomenal rhythms … truly an evening to remember!” Tickets available at the Biblioteca and online at www.sheltervg4.com.
Friday, August 18, at 5pm: Embrace of the Serpent. This Sundance award-winning film features the encounter, apparent betrayal, and finally life-affirming friendship between an Amazonian shaman and two foreign scientists. The Minneapolis Star Tribune said, “The film moves into psychedelic territory, creating a perspective that is equally unreal and unforgettable. It is challenging and engrossing from beginning to end!”
Wednesday, August, 23, at 5pm: The Fantastic Richard Feynman. Come and learn about the most popular physicist in American history. Feynman, an American theoretical physicist, was considered one of the most influential scientists of the 20th century. He received the Nobel Prize in physics, pioneered quantum computing, and introduced the concept of nanotechnology. In this film, we learn the captivating story of Mr. Feynman, the “everyman” of advanced physics. Discussion of this beloved genius to follow.
Next Friday, August 25, at 5pm, we present Amores Perros—the mesmerizing 2001 debut of the world-acclaimed Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu. On the brink of the new millennium in bustling Mexico City, one horrible car accident intertwines inextricably the lives of three perfect strangers. According to The New York Observer, “It is that rarest of features that shows a deep understanding of people. One of the most honored and most expertly articulated Mexican films of recent years.”
