Fábrica la Aurora’s Annual White Party

By Edward Swift

On August 5 Fábrica La Aurora will celebrate the annual Summer White Party. This event has become one of La Aurora’s traditions, a favorite of the public and the artists. Everyone is invited to put on the summer whites and show them off while strolling through the galleries, studios, and shops enjoying a refreshing drink or a taste of sherbet with San Miguel’s favorite trios playing in the background.

As with all the big events and monthly art walks, various galleries are preparing special exhibits. Galería Aller and Galería 910 will exhibit paintings and sculptures from their group of national and international artists. Skot Foreman will be hosting concurrent one man shows of abstract artists William Fares and Pascual Hijuelos. The entire gallery will be dedicated to their new works entitled, “Presencia de Ausencia” and “Osmosis” respectively. Galería Alquimia 4 will mount a new exhibition: “Luis Felipe de la Torre, grandes formatos” composed of recent work by the artist. The Van Doren Studio Gallery will show new paintings by Lane Van Doren and some of his recent metal art. Student work from these last months of workshops will complete the exhibit.

Galería Manuk has put together an interesting and varied exhibit that includes the work of Hector De Anda, the sculpture of Lisette Aguilar, and photographers Pepe Rocha, Oscar Fernández, and Paul Louis. Mario Oliva will be showing a large mural in his studio as well as the paintings of Toller Cranston and Nur Kuri’s sculptures.

For the Zoho Gallery, the White Festival is about how its artists use different shades of white to highlight strategy and texture. It is also about the contrast and differences of white to color. Zoho will show three pieces of ceramics by three artists using shades of white and different textures on their pieces.

With this in mind, I must quote my late friend, the interior designer from Dallas, Beverly Field. When choosing wall paint Beverly proceeded with caution. She always said: “The wrong shade of white can ruin your life.” You might wish to heed her words if you’re going to wear white to the White Party. But whatever you wear, white or color, all of La Aurora will be waiting to greet you at this annual event.
