Blossoming Beginnings and a Fond Farewell

The new beginnings commenced on the morning of July 16 at the 10:30am Eucharist. In addition to its regular parishioners and attendees, St. Paul’s Church overflowed with the family and friends of the five-year-old graduating class of Centro Infantil San Pablo. To the vibration of voices singing the entry hymn, the school’s Directora, Patricia Palacios Cortez, led the diminutive graduates, wearing traditional caps and gowns, down the middle aisle and to their places in the sanctuary.

Bishop William Gregg delivered his characteristically inspiring sermon in both Spanish and English, in deference to the graduates and their guests. Following the sharing of peace among the congregation, the children were led to the altar, where the Bishop handed each child a personal diploma.

Following the service, guests retired to the church lawn. The graduates emerged from the Parish Hall, girls now dressed in fluffy pink dresses and boys wearing pink shirts and ties. The children and the faculty in turn performed dances for the audience. Symbols of appreciation were given to volunteers who help the school’s many programs, and the graduates received gifts. Following all activities on the lawn, refreshments were served in the Parish Hall.

At one point in the lawn’s entertainment, the children presented Barbara Merritt Espinosa with flowers and exchanged kisses with her. Barbara is the outgoing Chairlady of the school’s Advisory Committee. Centro Infantil San Pablo has grown remarkably and with progressive excellence during Barbara’s years of service. She and her husband, Marco, are moving to Florida in the near future. This was, indeed, a fond, but sad, farewell.

Centro Infantil San Pablo is a preschool founded by St. Paul’s Anglican Church to provide underprivileged children with a quality early childhood education.
