Danzón: We’ve Negotiated Four Dates in the Jardín

By Leonardo Rosen

Thanks to the people of San Miguel, on Sunday, May 21, we had a very successful presentation of El Danzón y Otros Ritmos Bailables con el Club de Danzón Mercerina. The current municipal government apparently does not see this as a regularly scheduled ongoing event as it was originally conceived. However, we are grateful to the Department of Culture and Traditions for granting us four more dates in the Jardín Prinicipal of San Miguel.

El Danzón y Otros Ritmos Bailables
With Club de Danzón Mercerina
Sun, Jun 25, 5pm‒8pm
Sun, Aug 13, 5‒8pm
Thu, Jul 6, 6pm‒8pm
Thu, Aug 3, 6pm‒8pm
Jardín Principal

The first of these is on Sunday, June 25, 5‒8pm. The only other Sunday event will take place on Sunday, August 13, 5‒8pm. On that date, we hope to celebrate our ninth anniversary. I cannot say yet if there will be live music as in the previous eight years. We have not been given any Sunday in July.

However, as an experiment, we will have two shorter events in the Jardín on Thursday, July 6 and Thursday, August 3, 6‒8pm. All of our events are admission-free.

For now, we hope to see you on Sunday June 25. As many of you know we play the best danzón and other Latin rhythms for your dancing pleasure. We even toss in some swing and rock and roll. You are the stars of this show, as we always say.

Once again, we represented San Miguel with honor at the Mano a Mano del Danzón on June 11 in Mexico City. We do our best to show SMA that the danzón is a great Mexican tradition with a lot of activity all over the country.
