For the love of food and with a passion for sharing it, the yearly festival Food in Film donated their profits to the local DIF food program, the community dinner program for children. The funds raised from the Food in Film Festival ticket sales have been used to purchase a new refrigerator and 12,000 pesos worth of new kitchen utensils and equipment. The total donation of goods was worth 28,000 pesos.

Last June 15, the DIF staff along with their director, first lady Emilia Vega, and the donors and festival members Rhonda Lerner, Anna Louise Judson, and Kirsten West (Eva Eliscu was not able to be present because of a trip to Europe) attended a celebration in the DIF kitchen in the community of Los Torres, located 40 minutes away on the road to Dolores.

The donation was celebrated with a shared meal with the kids, homemade food, and cake. Emilia Vega thanked the festival ladies for their generosity and María Louise stated how happy they were to be able to help.

Food in Film festival co-producer Kirsten West, who is a remarkable chef, said that each year they will be donating their profits to a different cause or organization. Wait for their next event in March, 2018, featuring a match between gastronomy and the arts at a three-day event of food and cinema pairing. Visit www.foodinfilmsanmiguel.com.

This kitchen is located inside the elementary school, Lázaro Cárdenas, in Los Torres, where they serve hot food, benefiting 78 children and their moms. The mothers are also volunteers in the kitchen and they take turns every day cooking and doing chores. They are well organized and keep the kids well-cared for and protected.

This dining room has existed for 10 years now, thanks to the support of DIF and the active participation of the parents. However it’s not yet finished. It still needs a concrete ceiling or a boveda in the dining area, windows, doors, and a sink, to mention a few things.
