Posthumous Homage to Doña Lucha Maxwell

During the homage, her son gave a speech

By Jade Arroyo

Doña Lucha Maxwell founded the first center for orthopedic operations and rehabilitation in San Miguel, which evolved into the current Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center of San Miguel de Allende, CRISMA, and the Kids First medical conferences, which have been held 14 times in the city.

A couple of weeks ago Doña Lucha passed away, as a nonagenarian and one of the most beloved people in the city. She had a full life dedicated to service.

A few days after the news of her passing, a grieving posthumous tribute to Luz María Martínez de Maxwell was organized by the local administration and DIF on the premises of the General Felipe G. Dobarganes Hospital.

In his speech, Ricardo Villarreal García said “life is to give, and she created CRISMA where she worked for many years. CRISMA was the first institution in San Miguel that was committed to supporting children with some kind of disability. CRISMA forges ahead and will continue for years, and may even surpass the work of the original people. But in the end, when people have a mission and a vocation, that is how great things come about. What is  important is not only that you come up with ideas, but you must work hard to make those ideas become reality over the years.”

The people in charge of the ceremony were Mayor Ricardo Villarreal, accompanied by his wife, Emilia Vega, General Director of the Municipal DIF; Jorge Vidargas Rojas, General Hospital Director; William Andrews, Co-Director of the Kids First Medical Conference; and the attending public. They paid homage to Luz María Maxwell with a minute of applause. She will be remembered by her family and by all the people who loved her and who were touched and helped by her.

Dr Roberto Maxwell received an acknowledgment and noted, “We have been working one year at a time for 14 years with the ups and downs of the organization, but we have carried out more than one thousand, two hundred and fifty surgeries. It all started with a meeting that my mom invited me to 14 years ago.”
