As you walk the street of San Miguel’s downtown area, you see impressive old buildings. Those structures have a distinct personality which is expressed in their facades, which are strictly protected by law. Your guide will provide you with an opportunity to really get to know them. This fascinating tour spans more than three centuries and provides an introduction to the many styles represented. There’s baroque, neo-classical, transition buildings with features of both styles, and, on the outskirts of the protected area, you will see Mexican modern architecture. Background information on how the influence of European kings impacted the styles is also given.

Your donation for these tours helps fund Patronato Pro Niños, a nonprofit organization which has provided medical and dental care for almost 40 years to the needy children of San Miguel and vast rural area surrounding the city. We continue to improve our program. The goal this year is to fund a fourth dental van, which will shorten the interval between visits to the many communities in the campo. Right now there is an interval of 3 years between visits; the new van will reduce the time to 2 years.

Perhaps you would like a private Architectural Tour, in which case you can call during office hours or email Lily at info@patronatoproninos.org. Her phone is 152 2380. The donation per person is 400 pesos with a minimum of 1600 pesos for 1 to 4 people. You can pick the time of your choice during week days. During the warmer weather we advise morning tours.

The Historical Walking Tour is our flagship tour which was started in 1992 to fund Patronato Pro Ninos’ good works.

This tour is given every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. It meets in the Jardín across the street from the Parroquia at 9:45am and leaves promptly at 10am for the 2 1/2 hour tour. The donation for this tour is 300 pesos. The private Historical Tour is 350 pesos per person with a minimum of 1,400 pesos for 1 to 4 persons. The contact information for Lily is the same.
