Biblioteca Art Mysteries Continue: Who Painted This Painting?

By Jan Davis

We forge ahead with a new art mystery this week. This gorgeous painting of the Parroquia bathed in iridescent blues hangs in the Sala Inglesa Gallery at the Biblioteca. The painting appears to depict a procession during Semana Santa. It is signed vertically “M. SWARTS ’66.” There are several paintings in the Biblioteca by this artist. Can you share anything with us about this artist or how his/her paintings came to be hanging in the Biblioteca?

We have yet to receive input from readers on last week’s art mystery of the very old painting by Rela Fékete depicting people wearing traditional Hungarian clothing riding in a horse-drawn cart. In the meantime, we continue to receive information from our readers providing input on our first art mystery concerning artist Daniel Brennen. Thank you and keep the information coming.

If you have any information, please reach out to our Volunteer Art Registrar, Debra Broussard. debra.broussard@yahoo.com.
