Who Painted This Painting?

By Jan Davis

Biblioteca art mysteries continue! But first, a big thank you to Brian P. Joffrion for solving last week’s art mystery. He identified the artist, David Brennan, who painted two young girls in school uniforms standing behind a table of fruit, one of the larger and more colorful paintings located in the Biblioteca’s Sala de Inglesa. If you are interested in learning more about David Brennan, who lived and painted in San Miguel in the ’70s, there is an excellent article written by Leo Eaton to be found at www.eatoncreative.com.

We continue with Mystery Painting #2:

This very old oil painting, located in the Biblioteca’s Sala de Español, is signed by an artist named Rela Fekete. Presumably Fekete was Hungarian. How did this painting come to be hanging in the Biblioteca? Do you know who donated the painting to the Biblioteca or have any information that you can share about this artist or the provenance of this painting? If you have any relevant information, please contact Debra Broussard, a volunteer serving as the Art Collection Registrar for the Biblioteca, at debra.broussard@yahoo.com
