Carolina Alonzo, Editorial Assistant at Atención San Miguel
Meet La Biblioteca
By Jade Arroyo
In this series we invite you to know the faces and voices that make up our library: the people at the reception desk and the telephone extensions, behind the keyboards, in the various special positions, and their achievements.
The youngest employee at La Biblioteca is a 22-year-old young lady who, with joy and confidence, has launched her first formal job as an editorial assistant for the weekly newspaper Atención San Miguel.
Carolina is in charge of the technical and organizational part of the editorial section of the newspaper. She reviews the e-mail account firstname.lastname@example.org, to which many members of the Sanmiguelense community address their articles on events and news from the cultural, social, and artistic scene, and letters to the editor.
Caro takes care of daily monitoring of incoming mail, receiving contributions for publication, processing them, answering the authors/contributors, and giving the texts the appropriate editorial format. She is the liaison with the editor-in-chief, Tania Noriz, and she also answers questions about the editorial format, deadlines and other formalities of each edition.
Among her specific functions is to review and update the Qué Pasa calendar, to ensure that events submitted are not repeated, that new ones are listed, and that the past ones are deleted.
Caro studied Communication and Digital Media at Allende University. She graduated in December 2016.
Open and sociable, Caro became involved in communications as a natural evolution of her outgoing manner and gregariousness. Her family joked with her, saying “Dear, you talk a lot; you should communicate!” The natural trait became a profession.
During the last part of her university time, Caro did the social service component of her degree at the library with Atención. She had the perfect opportunity to develop her social service as a stepping stone to a situation perfectly suited to a communications career. Caro stayed for eight months as an intern and then began her apprenticeship with the newspaper, learning the processes and times of production, responsibility, and teamwork.
One of her main short-term goals is to improve her English. She reads the language and is now working on developing her oral skills. Caro continues to learning and daily renews her commitment to work and colleagues.
