Bob Dylan Tribute

By David Johanssen

Bob Dylan once rightly called himself “the spokesman for a generation.” In the 60s, Dylan seized that mantle by writing protest songs, maybe more timely today than ever. Tonight only, relive the first days of resistance by joining some of San Miguel’s finest musicians for our tribute to this legendary singer-songwriter at Shelter Theater, Friday, at 7pm. Local greats Tom Driscoll, William Henderson, Wendy Sievert, Tony & Bunny, and others will all be performing Dylan’s timeless works at what is sure to be a major event. Don’t miss one of the last big ensemble shows of the season!

Saturday, Apr 8 at 5pm: Stephen Sondheim’s Company. A cast full of Broadway’s best joins Neil Patrick Harris in this spectacular 2012 Broadway hit with the New York Philharmonic. According to the Chicago Tribune, “The mixture of TV personalities and seasoned musical theater performers makes … a rousing rendition of Sondheim’s most lively work.”

Have we all been deceived? Have our perceptions of time and space led us astray? Maybe what we thought we knew about our universe—that the past has already happened and the future is yet to be, that our universe is the only universe—is wrong. Join Einstein’s questioning as Shelter presents The Elegant Universe, featuring the “theory of everything” the ‘unified field’ that frustrated even the world’s greatest mind for decades. “A masterful explanation…”—Popular Mechanics.

Friday, Apr 14, at 5pm: Quest for the Lost Maya. The Maya’s soaring pyramids, monumental cities, and mythical mastery of astronomy and mathematics have spurred generations of explorers into the jungles of Central America on a quest to understand them. In the past decade, researchers working in Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula have made a series of startling discoveries that reveal a gaping hole in our understanding of the Maya. Quest for the Lost Maya follows American archaeologists as they find startling evidence of a forgotten Mayan society in the Yucatan. Discussion of this lost civilization to follow.
