Sponsor a Student to Attend University
By Robin Loving
Eighty students have applied for scholarships to complete their university careers through Jóvenes Adelante, a local nonprofit that grants scholarships to local, Mexican honors students who otherwise could not afford to attend university, breaking the cycles of historic economic disparity into which they were born.
Forty-five have passed the initial screening. Of those, typically 25 pass their personal and family interviews, so Jóvenes is seeking 25 sponsors for their typically five-year university careers. For about USD $4 day, you could be the proud sponsor of one of these rising stars, and your donation could be tax-deductible, in the US, Canada, or Mexico. Jóvenes Adelante students have an 85-percent graduation rate—higher than in the US, Canada, or Mexico—and they go on to become mentors and sponsors of other deserving students!
While we cannot guarantee that you could sponsor the exact student you might see here because we are still interviewing, we will do our best to match you with an outstanding opportunity for pride all around! Here are the first profiles of those students that will be featured in coming weeks in a series to help you determine whom you might like to sponsor.
