Making Wise Medical Choices
By Robin Loving
We live in a Mexican town of many retired expatriates who wonder what they would do if they fell ill. Hernán Drobney, MD, a health care advocate, has written Your Health, Your Choice to help us become empowered to participate in our own health care.

“Active involvement by individuals in their own healthcare decisions leads to better outcomes and lower health care costs,” said Dr. Drobny. “This is the principle of informed choice, collaboration between the healthcare provider and the patient,” he continued. “For the patient, it requires preparation and clarity of what the priorities and preferences are,” concluded Dr Drobny.
Dr Drobney has taught and practiced internal medicine at the University of Michigan for more than 30 years. He is known in the US and Mexico for his wisdom on making health care decisions. He will have copies of his book available for purchase. Join us at Rotary on Tuesday at Hotel Misión, when Dr Drobney shares how to enhance each person’s opportunity to participate in his or her health care choices. The meeting will be free and in English.
