Montserrat Morales, Human Resources Specialist and Loving Mom
By Jade Arroyo
Human resource, outside the context of a function or department of a company, are the employees of a company. La Biblioteca Pública San Miguel de Allende, with more than 60 years of working in the community, will finally have a Human Resources department in order to provide a better service and optimize the operation of the institution. The plans to create the Human Resources department began last year. On January 23, with integrity and commitment, Monse Morales assumed the direction of something that did not even exist. She started with having a chair in the office, structuring the department, and working with employees in sessions to address the experiences of workers.
“With this new position, I am getting to know all the employees, how long they have been working here, how they feel, what their positions are, and all the functions they play. I am amazed at how much work takes place day-to-day to move the Biblioteca forward.”
Monse is currently working closely with an external consultant, a psychologist who is providing the guidelines on how to collect the information, ask the right questions, and find the best way to unify the corporate and human parts.
Monse seems to be the perfect candidate for this position. Her training is in organizational psychology. She has experience working in ONG associations and fair trade and administration. She is also one of the most patient people we know.
A graduate of the University of León, Monse worked at FAI (Child Support Foundation), in insurance and in the Atención billing area before being promoted to her current job.
In her two years working at Atención, running between billing and collection and reception, Monse developed a high yield and tolerance; she became accustomed to working under pressure, with different equipment, and to become more organized, so that different elements were combined to result in the weekly publication of the newspaper on time.
Monse considers herself a responsible, tolerant, and creative person. These are traits that are useful to the mother of an energetic seven-year-old daughter, Mexican folkloric dancer Ana Victoria, with whom she has a very close relationship.
“My short-term goals are to finish with the foundation of the department, to update our database, modernize our forms, and to be a link between the company, the employees, and the Board, creating relationships based on respect and fellowship. Also, to master English language at 100 percent.”
In the future she pictures herself in La Biblioteca. “I feel that I can bring really good things to this institution and develop well here. I like to work here above all because I see the direct impact that our work has on the community of San Miguel, above all on children. When we see children reading their first book here, taking plastic arts classes, we see and listen to the beneficiaries every day.”
What is the function of a Human Resources department?
Human Resources (HR) is a function or department of the area of management and administration of companies that organizes and maximizes the performance of the employees, or human capital, in a company or organization in order to increase its productivity.
To human resource management is extremely important in a company or organization because it manages the human resource, thus the least predictable and dynamic resource.
Good human resources management generates, as a chain process, the following benefits and advantages:
Improves and exploits the skills and abilities of workers
Increases the performance, quality and production of both the worker and the company.
Good interpersonal relationship between workers creates motivation and good climate.
Good interpersonal relationship between workers and HR makes everyone feel heard and valued
The renewal of jobs or the creation of new jobs is implemented in a harmonious way for all.
The jobs are occupied by people competent for that job and compatible with the work team.
These types of resources are those that give an identity to the organization, since they are those that form the culture of the company through factors such as the type of communication and motivation.
