3rd Annual Arboles de Amor
By Jade Arroyo
More than 20 local artists made beautiful and quirky one-of-a-kind Christmas trees to auction, benefiting ALMA, the local home for the elderly.
This artsy benefit was held at The Restaurant on December 12, concurring with the national holiday honoring the Virgin of Guadalupe.
The trees were kindly donated by Linda Brown, Rupert and Uno Brown, Tomas Burkey, Lynn Rawden, Klaudia Oliver, Lorenzo Nuñez, Edna Orenday, Rae Miller, Gabriel Ordonez, Lourdes Rivera, Milla Villasano and Weezie Yancy-Seagal, Gabriel Zárate,
Elizabeth Martin, Leticia Loza Márquez, Thannia Reichart, Barbara Palazuelos, Andrew Osta, Denisse Baca, Octavio Coria, Alessandro Alviani, Paul Rodriguez, and Lavinia Ruiz.
Doors were open at 7pm with a cocktail, appetizers, and music by DJ Sacha Meade, and the patio was filled with all the eye-catching trees to bid on.
Other sponsors were MicroTeatro, Linda Brown Studios, Salon Oaxaca, Paco Rivera, Lady Zen, Liah Alonso, Briggs Brown, and Carolita Landers, who donated products and gift certificates for the auction as well. Singer and entertainer Johnny Favorite performed as the auctioneer, as well as providing enjoyable entertainment throughout the evening. Some of San Miguel’s so-called finest bachelors and bachelorettes put themselves on auction to help raise money for the special cause.
ALMA provides a safe haven with respect and dignity for our elders with warm beds, food, medical attention, and—most importantly—love and compassion, during their last days when there is nowhere else for them to go. The non-profit group depends on help and
donations from the community to keep their organization running. To learn more about ALMA or to make a donation, visit the facilities at Carmina Casas 69, La Lejona, or visit asiloalma.org.
