Men Who Cook

By Misty Haskett

The women of Mujeres en Cambio are all about education … and FOOD! But for our next event, we’re letting the men do the cooking!! One of our most fun and favorite events, Men Who Cook, will be held on Thursday, December 1. Amateur chefs and restaurant and catering professionals will come out in force to prepare a tasting event that will delight your taste buds and tickle your fancy.

This fabulous event will be held at a lovely home in the country just minutes from San Miguel. Set on two acres with ancient mesquite trees and lovely gardens, the Tuscan-style villa offers large patios and outdoor salas for your dining and relaxing pleasure. You’ll enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the mountains and countryside views, and when the sun sets, the twinkling lights of neighboring villages and San Miguel in the distance will be the perfect ending to this delightful evening. We promise to send you home with all your senses sated.

Our cooks for the evening will present an array of specialties including hors d’oeuvres, entrees, and desserts. Led by one of San Miguel’s premier caterers, Alejandro Gomez Tagle, a cadre of kitchen aficionados—Jorge Antonio Carrasco, Tito Eduardo Izaquirre, Manuel Flores, and Pablo Hernández—will prepare an international spread of Spanish tapas, French quiche, Italian lasagna, American deviled eggs, Thai pudding, and Mexican pastel de elote.

Tim McCoy of Pizza Pig Restaurant will tantalize with his Buffalo and Barbecue Wings. Jim Dobson Kelley of Coldwell Banker Smart will sell you on his Lemon Chicken Artichoke Lasagna. Alan Jordan, actor/director, will command your attention with Chicken Liver Pate. You’ll enjoy Don Barbaree’s Ratatouille con Queso, Fred Collins’s Tomato Cilantro Bisque, John Genereux’s Curried Chicken Salad, Paul Sinclair’s luscious Lentil Soup, and Bob Levine’s Brick Oven Pizza! Patric Ellsworth’s Casa Cascada Ale will be the perfect antidote for Jim Harper’s fiery Five Alarm Chili. All this and more, plus a cash bar with wine, beer, refrescos, and tequila!

Be sure to fill your pockets with pesos when you come, so you won’t miss out on the great prizes in our giant raffle! The phenomenal offerings include a Warren Hardy Spanish course (value US$355), a Flavors of the Sun Cooking School 8-week course for your Mexican cook or housekeeper (value US$350), a Gorky platter and designer apron from Camino Silvestre, and two nights at Casa de la Noche B&B. Additional prizes include silver earrings from Maria Belen Jeweler, an original jewelry piece from Magenta Gallery, gift certificates from The Nail Lounge, Oso Azul Café and Buen Dia Café, a collection from Abrazos Boutique, and two tickets to director Alan Jordan’s next play.

Tickets and directions are available at Solutions, Recreo 11; Abrazos Boutique, Zacateros 24; and La Tienda at the Biblioteca, Insurgentes 25. Transportation is by private car, taxi, or car services such as Uber, Venta, or Executivo.
