Meta describes her recent work: “This work, ‘Tunel’ gave me a timeless road, an opening, a conduct, a corridor, a walkway: the means to establish communication, maintain the curiosity, the emotions. Life as we understand it is an exit, an arrival. ‘Tunel’ is a symbol of the origin of this eternal life.”

An artist with an extensive curriculum, MariCarmen has lived in Paris for the last 30 years. She studied architecture in the University Anahuac and the National University in Mexico City. She worked in the studio of Sheila Hicks in Paris and since then has had numerous individual and group shows in Mexico, Europe, and the US, such as Bellas Artes in Mexico City in 1980, Galería Piscolabis in Barcelona in 1986, Galerie de France in 1994. and The Museo José Luis Cuevas in 1999. Also the prestigious publisher Franco Maria Ricci published a book on her work, titled Faces.

Her brilliant colors, firm brush strokes, and primitive faces evoke her Latin American roots, while the elegant composition of her paintings and her powerful abstraction display the sophistication of modern European art. Abstract and innovative, Meta’s work always surprises us with its strength and courage. Undoubtedly she unites in her work the best of two worlds. With her roots always present, Meta’s work takes firm steps towards the future.
