Spring Kittens? Oops!

By Joan DiPiero,

Every year during late spring I write about our new kitten arrivals, but based on the ongoing parade of incoming babies recently, it looks like there’s a need for a semi-annual announcement. So here goes—Welcome to our autumn crop of kittens! Who knows why we have these inflated numbers of kittens coming to us long after our usual kitten season is over? Unknown pheromones in the air? Climate change? Too much exposure to relentless election year ads, luring the kittens’ moms and dads away from the TV in pursuit of other pleasures? Whatever the reason, the SPA can offer you the pleasure of choosing among two dozen recent arrivals.

We have every possible range of colors, personalities, and degrees of fuzziness. For your consideration: Dodi is a darling male tabby bundle of fur who steals our hearts. Stoli is a cream-colored male who thoughtfully provided us with a brown front foot to differentiate him from our other cream kittens. Zafira is a most feminine calico girl, ready for snuggling. We have many others for you to choose from, including the pictured basket of adorables. (Groan.)

We welcome you to visit the SPA and meet our myriads of kittens. You can see all our available cats and dogs on our website—spasanmiguel.org—the “Adopt Me” pages. How about volunteering at the SPA? Get in shape, build muscle tone, and increase stamina by walking dogs. Looking for less vigorous participation, but the same amount of warm, fuzzy, good feelings? Get to know our cats, kittens, and puppies. They are always eager for attention and love. Not only will you enjoy yourself, but you will help socialize our approximately 100 resident cats and dogs. The more people our animals get to meet, the better it is for them. With the holidays upon us, please remember that we have age requirements for volunteers. We’ve had a number of minors show up to volunteer and have had to send them home to get volunteer agreements signed by their parents. They are very disappointed that they can’t stay and just jump right in to start playing with our wonderful cats and dogs. Our volunteer information sheets in Spanish and English include information about age requirements and can be downloaded from our website at spasanmiguel.org/how-you-can-help/volunteer/. Adoption hours are 11–2, Monday–Saturday, Los Pinos 7, 152 6124. We look forward to seeing you at the SPA!
