Wow, Fun, and Funds for Centro Infantil San Pablo

By Mireille Rita Grovier

On Saturday, November 12, a unique event will take place on behalf of Centro Infantil San Pablo. From noon until 5pm at St. Paul’s Anglican Church,  Alma Guerrero will open her Wow Collection as a trunk sale to benefit the school. The uniqueness of this artistic collection is Guerrero’s mission: to create jewelry, wearable art, and home décor items “re-inspired from once-cherished and abandoned elements.” The items are handmade and one of a kind.

Ms. Guerrero has a degree in Interior Design from the Art Institute of Houston, Texas, and has taught Interior Design in Texas as well. She has traveled extensively in Mexico and the United States. Guerrero combines her knowledge of design and historical motifs with her love of “anything from the past.” She resurrects and collects treasures that have been discarded, designing them into one-of-a-kind pieces using vintage beads and “fabric findings,” among other things. Contributing to the incomparable and innovative nature of her work is her genetic heritage: Spanish, Italian, indigenous, Jewish, and African. Her designs have been on display in Santa Fe, New Mexico; Fredericksburg and Austin, Texas, and, some years ago, at the Instituto here in San Miguel de Allende.

There will be three tables of the items for sale: one each for the jewelry, clothing, and home décor materials and other accessories. This very versatile artist will also be introducing her new line of designs, “Nature Rules.”

Refreshments will accompany the event.
