San Miguel Big Read Launch Event

By Jessica Miramontes

How is biology related to the decisions we make? Is it possible that through the choices we make we are influencing evolution? Following someone else’s trail makes us wonder whether we can create a new trail, or will we end up following the first one?

Nov 10, 5pm
Literary Sala
Hotel Posada de la Aldea
Ancha de San Antonio 15, Centro
100 pesos, 50 pesos for members

These and other questions can be considered in the book groups discussing this year’s Big Read selection: On Trails, by Robert Moor. The discussion groups will take place during the week of January 23, 2017, as part of the 2017 San Miguel Big Read. If you would like to join a discussion group, we invite you to the Big Read Launch Event on November 10 during the monthly Literary Sala reading at 5pm at the Aldea Hotel on Ancha de San Antonio. You can sign up there for a reading group and, if you are interested, to host one.  Books will also be available for purchase. Admission is $100 pesos, $50 pesos for members, and includes a wine reception.

To join a Big Read discussion group, you may also e-mail Jo Curtis at jocurtis44@hotmail.com. Tell Jo whether you prefer to meet in the morning, afternoon, or evening; the colonia where you live; and if you would like to host a group in your home.

On Trails by Robert Moor puts together different disciplines to offer insights on how we are related to other species and how we differentiate. In the book, we can experience the Appalachian Trail beyond its physical aspects and learn facts about our world that would otherwise be hard to uncover.  We invite you to dive into the book and share your insights with the community.  Questions will be provided for the reading groups as a guideline, and you are also welcome to bring your own.

Robert Moor will present a keynote address at the Writers’ Conference on Friday, February 17, at 2pm. Purchase your tickets now as the event is likely to sell out. For your tickets, go to sanmiguelwritersonference.org, or attend any Literary Sala event.
