If Horses Could Speak

By Christina Johnson

You are invited to a showing of the DVD, If Horses Could Speak. This is an interesting presentation for horse lovers, veterinarians, and professional body therapists. The DVD shows how incorrect “modern” riding and training negatively affects horses’ health. The natural movement of the horse uses muscles that are shown by anatomical overlays in the film, and you will see the movement in real time, and what harm may happen to the horse when a rider is unaware of the horse’s anatomy. The theory and narration is presented by author and equestrian Dr. Gerd Heuschmann, a German veterinarian. As your host, I will give a talk on the benefits of Equine Cranialsacral Therapy. From watching the film, you will have more knowledge of how the horse may receive an injury in one area of the body that emerges as pain in another separate location. How can we be more respectful towards horses? How can we be more sensitive to their comfort?

Using vivid color illustrations of the horse’s skeletal system, ligaments, and musculature, in addition to comparative photos depicting “correct” versus “incorrect” movement, and most importantly, photos of damaging schooling methods, Dr. Heuschmann convincingly argues that the horse’s body tells us whether our riding is truly gymnasticizing and “building the horse up,” or simply wearing it down and tearing it apart.

Sunday, November 6, 6pm at Casa Europa, San Francisco 23, just up from Cafe Don Agustín. Dress warmly, as the patio with viewing screen is covered and closed, but very open. Not confirmed, but wine or hot chocolate may be for sale. E-mail me at visionarypower@gmail.com to reserve a place or for questions.
