Annual Membership Meeting of Mujeres en Cambio
By Misty Haskett
The best thing I did when I retired nine years ago was to move to the beautiful town of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. The most rewarding thing I did upon moving to San Miguel was to join Mujeres en Cambio. I immediately made friends with other members who today are my nearest and dearest friends. They are people, both women and men, for whom I would do anything and on whom I can rely in any crisis. I also experienced the immediate joy of knowing that I was contributing to someone else’s life. Meeting our young scholarship recipients, following their successes, and watching them become productive members of their communities are retirement benefits I had not expected.
Annual Membership Meeting
“Mujeres en Cambio”
Sat, Nov 5, 1–3pm
St. Paul’s Church
The Annual Membership Meeting of Mujeres en Cambio will be held Saturday, November 5, at St. Paul’s Church on Cardo 6, from 1 to 3pm. Please join us if you are interested in learning more about our organization or if you want to find that special place in our community where your time, energy, and talents will be much appreciated and truly rewarded. Our members and supporters are year-round residents, part-time residents, and visitors from around the world.
At this meeting you will meet our Executive Board and many of our members. You will hear reports from me as president, our Finance and Scholarship committees, a young man from one of our rural communities who is a teacher to many of our scholarship recipients, a presentation by an author who has written a book dedicated to Mujeres en Cambio, and more. You’ll learn about new developments in 2016 and our plans for the future. You’ll be among the first to hear about our upcoming fundraising events, and we welcome your ideas and input. We are always looking for new members, and this is a great way to get an overview of what we do and see where you could fit in.
This enjoyable and informative gathering is for all of our current membership and interested residents and visitors to San Miguel. Refreshments will be served. Please also mark your calendars for our next event, Men Who Cook, on Thursday, December 1. Mujeres en Cambio is a nonprofit organization that provides scholarships to deserving underserved young women in and around the San Miguel area. We are currently supporting more than 160 young women in secondary school and university. Mujeres en Cambio is an all-volunteer organization, so there are no staff costs, and 97 percent of all funds raised go to our scholarship recipients.
