Afternoons of Music, Munchies, and Margaritas Are Back!

By Kay Miller

We are happy to announce that, after a year of rest, monthly afternoons of music and delicious refreshments for the benefit of Casa de los Ángeles are back! Held at the lovely Bed and Breakfast, Casa de la Cuesta, this monthly event has become a favorite of locals and visitors alike. From this glorious venue above the center of San Miguel you can see spectacular views, visit the world-class mask museum, The Other Face of Mexico, at your leisure, and simply enjoy the warmth of good company and delicious goodies prepared by a very capable staff. Owners Heidi and Bill LaVasseur have become known for their generosity in hosting events to benefit San Miguel charitable organizations. Casa de los Ángeles is grateful to be a beneficiary of that generous spirit.

The entertainment for the afternoon has always been special and gratefully received. I was in Bogotá, Colombia, this spring and heard this amazing duo playing in the street. Folks were dancing and clapping and so was I!

So imagine my surprise when I saw this same duo playing and singing on a Friday night, right here in San Miguel de Allende, a few months later. This dynamite group calls themselves Timka, and you’re in for a treat when they perform at our upcoming afternoon party. Timka is an amazing duo made up of partners Stephanie and Nelo from Colombia. Timka is liquid soul that takes you on a journey from Afro-Colombian roots to a worldly expression that transcends pop and beautifully blends poetry and Latin American rhythms. They combine their ancestral and traditional roots with modern music, expressing their unreleased songs and rich folklore. On Wednesday, November 9, from 4 to 6pm, you will have an opportunity to meet old and new friends, enjoy the beautiful venue, explore the mask museum, and learn more about the work of the amazing nonprofit, Casa de los Ángeles. Come and enjoy a memorable afternoon and bring your friends and out-of-town guests. A great way to experience the magic and hospitality of San Miguel.

Casa de los Ángeles is a free daycare center that has grown to be a community center in which mothers find the support they need to make a better life for their families. Casa de los Ángeles serves 100 children, from infants to four years of age, ensuring food is in their bellies, their minds are challenged, bodies are healthy, and there is a smile on every face.
