Fun, Food, and Fine Art to Benefit Ojalá Niños!
By Elsmarie Norby
Ojalá Niños and their families invite you to visit us in San Miguel Viejo on Sunday, November 6, from noon to 4pm, for a delightful day in the country.
Fun, Food, and Fine Art for Ojala Niños!
Sun, Nov 6, 12–4pm
Rancho de San Miguel Viejo
There will be an art walk to see and purchase art by the children and adults, fabulous art from the staff and teachers of Ojala, fine art, and a variety of precious items from estates and other donors. Local cuisine will be made and served by women in the community. Drinks and desserts donated by local restaurants and cafés will be part of the delicious fare. There will be live music by Los Peques, the fabulous musicians who play every Friday and Saturday night at Los Milagros restaurant, and surprise fun for children. At 1pm there will be a tour to the historic chapel built in 1542, now sitting elegantly between two cornfields on the far side of the community. Wear your sturdy walking shoes.
This fiesta is a Friend/Fund-raising event for the nonprofit organization, Ojala Niños, which provides free classes and experiences to children of all ages in arts, music, literacy, health, environment, yoga, and tennis. This is to raise money and support for the Community Learning Center that is planned for the near future, on land next to the current location, to provide a computer center, library, large community garden, and more classes for adults and children. Ojala Niños is a model for alternative educational opportunities, to meet the special needs of families in rural Mexico.
So come to the campo for a great time, learn a little about rural life, and support a great program! If you can’t attend this time, you can donate via Paypal, or directly via the San Miguel Community Foundation (SMCF).
