The Seven Archangels Art Show

By Angela Lewis Serrano

Dede Schuhmacher began painting Angels when an Angel Investor from Austin, Texas, commissioned her to paint 12 Angels for him. She enjoyed painting the ephemeral feel and mystery of the archangels. According to the people who study angels, each Archangel has been assigned a specific color and a specific job in the universe. Dede uses broad strokes of the colors assigned to each Angel to capture their ethereal nature and the feel of their specific job. For the Day of the Dead, she has painted seven Archangels to portray the belief that spirits from the other world visit us during the Day of the Dead.
Joannie Starbuck has commissioned an Aztec relic piece as part of the Day of the Dead decorations at the Art Show.
