Enjoy Aguamiel in San Miguel Now

By Cristina Orcí

Aguamielería El Maguey opened its doors in San Miguel de Allende on October 1.

It is an establishment dedicated to the sale of “aguamiel,” which is also known as maguey juice or agave juice. Aguamielería El Maguey is located on the main floor of the new Mercado Sano.

Freshly harvested aguamiel is served every day from 8:30am to 7pm.

Aguamiel is high nutrition. This is why it’s important to bring it back into the Mexican diet. We serve the natural version to satisfy our clientele. And we make creative and delicious smoothies with fruits in season to win everyone over, including people who taste it for the first time. The Rodríguez family from Guadalupe de Támbula is in charge of providing freshly harvested aguamiel each morning.

At the stand, you will find information about aguamiel’s nutritional and medicinal properties. As many of us know, aguamiel and pulque have been an important part of the gastronomy of San Miguel families for the last 800 years. It is also one of the most important traditional products of Mexico. Today, new mothers in San Miguel continue to heal from anemia by drinking aguamiel before breakfast each day for six weeks.
