Bing Bing, Bong Bong, Bing Bing: Canciones de Protesta y Amor

By Natalie Burdick

Following in the folk tradition of singer/songwriters from Woodie Guthrie and Phil Ochs to Bob Dylan and Pete Seeger, Pete Kronowitt will be showcasing titles from his recently released fourth album, A Lone Voice. The album’s accessible songs span from folk to pop, with hints of country, and dashes of rock influence inspired by Jackson Browne, John Mellencamp, and Elvis Costello.

Just in time for the 2016 US election, Pete will pay homage to America’s rich history of protest music, which first appeared in the 18th century as grassroots refrains against slavery and poverty. Join Pete, bassist John David Coppola, and special guest vocalist, Joan Yonkler, for a night of political insights and deeper human truths.

‘Tis the season to be electing, and this performance will be a political and musical delight for both San Miguel’s expats and audiences of all nationalities. Listen to songs urging audiences to face truths, no matter how uncomfortable, tackle injustices, poke fun at the absurdity of extremism, lift the curtain on the strings of media manipulation, and remember that the power of change is always here and now within each of us.

Pete’s A Lone Voice was recorded and produced in Nashville by Grammy-winning songwriter Phil Madeira. Pete has toured internationally in Asia and across the US in the last few years. His freshman project, Phases of the Heart, recorded in 1993, was produced by John Alagia, of Dave Matthews Band and Jon Mayer fame. His second and third albums, Threads, and Elements were produced by Pete Snell, who toured extensively with Lyle Lovett.

John David Coppola, a bassist and longtime collaborator, has performed with the Joe Chiocca Band, the Danny Morris Band, and Shirkaday. John has over 30 years of experience playing thousands of shows both nationally and internationally.

Singer Joan Yonkler has recently performed in Washington, DC, at Blues Alley, at Laporta’s in Alexandria, Virginia, and at Café Elegance in Rome, Italy. In San Miguel, she performed at sold-out concerts for the San Miguel Jazz and Blues Festival, concerts at the Teatro Santa Ana, and at various venues around town.

Tickets for the event can be bought at the Santa Ana ticket counter at the Reloj entrance to La Biblioteca one week prior to the concert.
