Maestro Muro will present a solo guitar concert called “Classical Guitar Gems, Gemas de la Guitarra Clasica,” sharing his great musical passions—the rich folkloric traditions and the signature styles of Latin America, Spain, and classical music.
For an evening of passionate and vibrant music to stir the heart, come and hear the work of J.S. Bach, Moreno-Torroba, Albeniz, Celedonio Romero, Jobim, Piazzolla, Powell, Barrense Dias, Pixinguiha, Falu, and many more! Enjoy Muro’s fiery, sensuous, jazz-flavored playing from Argentine tangos, preludios, carnavalitos, Spanish music, and flamenco to the subtle bossa nova, lively sambas, rhythmic choros, romantic samba-cancao, elegant valsas brasileiras (Brazilian waltz), and powerful and dark afrosambas.
Alfredo Muro’s career as a musician has not stopped rising. Over the years he has performed throughout Latin America, the United States, Europe, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, and Peru, and has had three consecutive tours to Taiwan. He was the featured artist at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, in 2007, for the Organization of American States, as well as for the Smithsonian Museum, representing Peru at the IV Ibero-American Guitar Festival. He also performed at a special audience for the late Pope John Paul II at the Vatican.
“Muro has the rare combination of surpassing virtuosity and superb musicianship, and his playing is impossible to resist” —Fred Dannen, New York Times bestselling author.
“A highly refined technique and artistic expression of a virtuoso classical maestro” ¾ Guitar Foundation of America
“The music of Alfredo Muro elevates the guitar to a higher plane … it is richly eloquent”
The Children’s Art Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded to help underprivileged children reach their full potential through art. The foundation offers free education in art and literacy to disadvantaged children in many rural communities of San Miguel de Allende in the children’s own classrooms. Children learn drawing, painting, imagining, and story writing—the life skills of self-expression—as well as developing fine motor skills, attention to detail, problem solving, and self-confidence. This all happens while they are having fun and learning to draw great pictures and create great stories.
Come to hear Muro on Thursday, November 3. The benefit concert will be held at Bellas Artes, Miguel Malo Auditorium at 7:00pm.
