The models this year have been selected in honor of their service to our community. Our very own Kathy Devine, Past President of Mujeres en Cambio is one of the founders of One Hundred Women, a group of women who have contributed thousands of dollars to a variety of local charitable organizations in San Miguel. Betse Davies is a long time MEC member, active supporter of Jovenes Adelante, and leader of the Patronata Walking Tours of San Miguel.
Susan Neulist is a member of the Executive Committee of MEC, but also near and dear to her heart is the organization Libros Para Todos that brings hundreds of children together with a book and its author. This is a monumental experience for many children who have never owned a book.
Susan Page, also a founder of One Hundred Women, as well as founder of The Literary Sala and Executive Director of the San Miguel Writer’s Conference, is taking time from her very busy schedule to express her support for important work of Mujeres en Cambio.
Some of San Miguel’s outstanding residents are making a repeat visit as Fashion Show models. April Gaydos, President of Audubon; Brenda Sexton, columnist for Lokkal SMA Magazine, and Barbara Poole, owner of Bordello Galeria, Casa de la Noche, and White Lantern Event Center, will grace us with their beauty and style once again. First time models, but long time Mujeres en Cambio supporters include Merry Calderoni, artist; Lyn Gawron, board member of Casita Linda; and Aly Posner, Jovenes Adelante mentor and MEC Scholarship Committee member.
All of our models speak to the amazing spirit of community service for which San Miguel is known and the volunteer members of Mujeres en Cambio and the young women who are our scholarship recipients are very appreciative of their support.
The Fashion Show 2016, organized by our own fashionista Beth Rosener, will be held at the White Lantern Event Center at Órganos 19, and will include music, local jewelry and fashion accessory vendors, appetizers, and a cash bar. Tickets are 400 pesos and include all the fun and entertainment and your first drink. Seating is limited and the two previous shows sold out quickly, so please don’t delay. This is a not to be missed event!
Mujeres en Cambio is a nonprofit organization that provides scholarships to deserving underserved young women in and around the San Miguel area. We are currently supporting more than 160 young women in secondary school and university. Mujeres en Cambio is an all-volunteer organization, so there are no staff costs, and 97% of all funds raised go to our scholarship recipients. Please go to mujeresencambio.org for further information.
