Call for Peace projects

By Jean Paul Peretz

The third International Peace Day Celebration in SMA on September 21st was wonderful!

Organizers Camino de la Paz, Rotary, Allende la Cultura and Comnapaz had three goals: Celebrate peace at time where violence and disharmony seem so prevalent; elevate the consciousness that peace is possible and offer tools to people who want to find and spread peace.

We received many positive reactions from participants and attendees. Here is some of the feedback:

Ron Smith of Santa Fe Learning who presented collaborative games says:

We put on harnesses/helmets on two 8 and 10 year old brothers who wrote a peace message and climbed on a rope to “deliver” their message to the Peace Bucket. An adult woman refused additional help….” I can do it” and so she did. We got written peace notes from groups of younger students and several adults.”

After the peace event, a woman listened to a spiritual broadcast that she normally would not have been interested in.  This broadcast changed her mind about our current political situation.

‘…It made me see how I have chosen the path of least resistance to the chaos that this election is bringing but I see things differently now
I often doubt that public events are helpful in creating change, but I believe this time it was.  If it happened to one person, it might have happened with many. I wanted to express my gratitude for Camino de la Paz’s efforts to create a more peaceful San Miguel.” Laura Shermer

I felt honored to speak about Peace in front of the Parroquia.  My approach is one of personal transformation in consciousness.

I was so pleased to see so many people gather, and most wearing white.   I thought the speakers gave excellent talks” Rev. Nancy Anderson

Regidora Lolita del Refugio Dolores represented the municipality and participated in the dedication of the future peace monument site in Parque Juarez, affirming the interest of local government in making peace in Miguel a UN recognized International City of Peace.
