Each of us has an untold number of stories that define our lives. When thinking of a preschool moment, a first date, a job interview, a birthday party, a death, our parents’ divorce, a wedding, a school graduation, our thoughts about that event tell a story. We see in our minds the people, the place, the actions, the reactions, the outcome, and we re-experience the feelings.

In 2016, the Storytelling Festival offered several storytelling workshops. A Spanish workshop, led by Paola Baños and Laura Duenas, took place September 2 and 3. An English workshop, led by Stephanie Medlock, BC May, Nathan Feuerberg, Maggie Bunce, and Kate Rowland were held September 30 and October 1. Workshop graduates will perform their stories in the theater at Bellas Artes on the evening of October 12 from 7 to 9pm.

The main festival competition will entrance audiences with the sheer variety of stories on October 13 and 14 from 10:30am to 3:30pm each day in the Auditorio of Bellas Artes, Hernandez Macias 75. The Mistress of Ceremonies is no other than our very own CheriRae Wright, director of the Festival in 2014 and 2015. Judges will select the top winners from the group of contestants, and their stories will be reprised at the Awards Showcase, Saturday, October 15, from 6 to 9pm. Bea Aronson will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies for the Awards night and add her original story to the evening.

Tickets are available at La Conexión at Café Monet, Zacateros 83, or at the door one hour before each performance.
