Smile, You Are in San Miguel

Within the framework of the 25th anniversary celebration of Charco del Ingenio, a panoramic sculpture designed by renowned German artist Wilhem Holderied was inaugurated.

The sculpture is located in the northern reserve of Charco del Ingenio, across the canyon and dam. The stone structure is integrated into the natural landscape and shaped like a maze, and also a celestial observatory based in major astronomical dates.

The sculpture/installation, which bears the evocative name of “The House of Starlight,” interacts with the surrounding nature and design of the landscaping team which was in charge of the Botanical Garden. Holderied’s work is characterized by a creative and playful dialogue with nature.

The inauguration of the work took place in the framework of the Dual Germany-Mexico Year, which commemorates 100 years of friendship between the two nations.

The inaugural ceremony was held at the House of Europe, preceded by an exhibition and auction of works and watercolors by the artist. It was attended by the Ambassador of Germany, the mayor of San Miguel de Allende, and the governor of the state of Guanajuato, as well as personalities of the local cultural scene and friends of the Botanical Garden.

To see the sculpture, visit the Charco, open daily from 9am to 6pm.
