Meet Your Local Doctors

Peace of Mind in San Miguel and H+ Hospital San Miguel have joined forces to offer a series of monthly medical lectures at the Biblioteca. Local board-certified medical specialists will offer key information on how to treat and prevent chronic illness, accidents, and common ailments. The purpose of the Medical Lecture Series is to provide English-speaking residents and visitors the opportunity to meet local specialty doctors as well as to learn about healthy living and preventative health.

Thursday, October 13: Burn Safety and Prevention

Dr. Juan Bosco, MD, PhD, plastic, Anaesthetic, reconstructive, and general surgeon. He graduated in medicine from UNAM. In 2015, Dr. Bosco was awarded the National Meritorious Medal of Honor for Reconstructive Surgery Achievements for burn victims. Dr. Bosco practices at H+ Hospital in San Miguel.

Thursday, November 10: Importance of Having a Primary Care Physician

Dr. Yunuen Fernández, MD, internal medicine specialist. She graduated from UNAM. A published author on preventative health topics, she is trilingual (Spanish/English/French) and has passed the Cambridge English Advanced Proficiency exam. Dr. Fernández practices at H+ Hospitals in San Miguel and Querétaro.

Thursday, December 8: Healthy Aging to Prevent Alzheimer´s Disease

Dr. Julia Carranza, MD, geriatrics specialist. She graduated from Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro. She has published articles on chronic diseases in the elderly and practices at H+ Hospital in San Miguel and Santa Sofía Assisted Living Center. Dr. Carranza is quadrilingual (English/Spanish/French/German).

Thursday, January 12―Medical Emergencies in San Miguel

Dr. Robert Maxwell, MD: critical care specialist. He completed a fellowship in Cardio-Pulmonary Medicine at UC San Diego. He studied Critical Care Medicine at the ABC Hospital in Mexico City and has published articles on cardiac and pulmonary diseases. Dr. Maxwell practices medicine in San Miguel and is part of the staff of the Heart Institute in Querétaro.

During the October 13 opening event, Dr. Claudia Aguilar, Medical Director of H+ Hospital in San Miguel, will present an overview of the Medical Lecture Series and introduce the doctors presenting topics in 2016–2017. Afterwards, Dr. Bosco will deliver the first lecture on Burn Safety and Prevention. In his lecture, Dr. Bosco will present information on burn injury causes, treatment, and avoidance.

A well-informed patient is a happy patient! By attending, you will be able to develop a clear, firsthand understanding of local doctors’ knowledge and expertise. Should an illness or medical emergency occur during your time here, knowing the professionals who will be there for you is essential.

The medical lectures will be presented every second Thursday of the month in the Sala Quetzal at the Biblioteca. Each doctor will present for 45 minutes and allow for a question and answer session.
